Disaster Roof Repairs -Prepping For Emergencies

Lightning strike at night very near homes

Disasters never happen as a planned event. Here in Omaha, the sheer weight of snowfall can cave in a roof. This type of calamity is never planned for, but as a homeowner you can be somewhat prepared for roof disasters.

Every homeowner should have an emergency preparedness plan. Where would you go if the roof caved in? Who would you call for help? What roofing company should you call for repairs? What type of emergency kit should you get together if the roof falls on all your belongings?

Disaster planning is important because none of us can tell the future. Roofs have caught on fire. They have caved in on families. They have had trees fall on them. And they have been damaged so badly that the home suffers significant water damage. Are you ready for whatever Mother Nature has to throw at you?

As part of the Disaster Response Group, Valley Boys Roofing is an Omaha roofing contractor. We have handled emergency roof repairs since 1995. We want you to be as prepared as possible for these unfortunate, unpredictable events.

  • Heavy snow roof cave-ins

A Plan For Emergency Roof Repairs

Your first focus after a disaster will be safety. You should know the local Sheriff’s office phone number, have access to a telephone, know your immediate neighbors in case you need help, and know the emergency numbers of the utility companies for immediate shut-off.

Second, know where you and the family will go if the roof caves in or another disaster occurs and you need somewhere to stay. Have a family member or friend as a central contact phone number and address for children in case you aren’t together at the time and can’t be reached.

If you are in a more isolated area, be sure to keep an emergency kit ready. At a minimum, you’ll want to have gathered blankets and coats for wintertime, an activated burner phone, flares, flashlights, batteries, food, and water.

Know Who To Call For Roof Repairs

You will need to know the phone number of your homeowner’s hazard insurance policy carrier. You will want to call them as soon as possible so they can start the recovery process of the home. Remember, the inspector they send to assess the damage works for them and has their interests in mind, not yours.

Know the phone number of a local roofing company who handles disaster roof repairs. This time will be stressful enough without having to find someone on last minute notice. Do your research, choose a company, and have the number ready.

Be sure the roof repair company will work with you during disaster recovery. This includes offering a professional roof inspection to represent your interests during the claims process.
